The U.S. government’s top CoV expert, Anthony Fauci, supports a proposal to make vaccinations mandatory for schoolchildren in light of rising new infections. It’s a good idea, Fauci told CNN yesterday. The U.S. has already done so for decades for polio, measles, mumps, rubella and hepatitis, he said.
Until now, children under the age of 12 could not receive a vaccination. Fauci tells ABC that there should be enough data by early October to assess whether vaccination is safe for this age group. The rising number of infections is already affecting school operations.
In the U.S., 173.5 million people have been fully vaccinated so far, representing about 53 percent of the population, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of nearly 369 million doses have been administered, it said. More than 204 million people have been vaccinated at least once, it said. About 328 million people live in the United States.
